An overload coupling intended for arrangement between a rotary driving element (12) and a rotary driven element (18) has a recess (22) on one of these elements and a hole (28) on the other element in an axial position which corresponds to the recess (22), the recess (22) being curved in an arc shape in the circumferential direction and extending in the axial direction. An essentially cylindrical roller (30) which extends in the axial direction and has a tapered surface (32a, b) at at least one end, is fitted into the hole (28) in such a way that it can be rotated about its axis and moved in the radial direction. The roller (30) is normally pressed radially inwards by a pressing device (34) so that it remains in engagement with the recess (22) so as to transmit the rotary motion of the driving element (12) to the driven element (18). When an overload torque is applied, the pressing device (34) allows the roller (30) to move radially outwards and, as a result, the roller is released from the recess (22). <IMAGE>
