The invention, which relates to a method for monitoring the status of an asynchronous machine with the aid of various operating data which are measured with the asynchronous machine running, measures only the input impedances to determine three parameters which characterise the status of the asynchronous machine and in turn make possible specific monitoring functions. Above all, the air-gap monitoring which is achieved by the method according to the invention and is not complex can be used for early detection of the defects which were previously responsible for the majority of machine damage.
