PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of a wood grain pattern on the surface of a surface treated steel sheet by electrolytically tinning a steel sheet in a tinning bath contg. an org. reducing agent and by subjecting the tinned steel sheet to reflow treatment. CONSTITUTION:When a steel sheet is electrolytically tinned and subjected to reflow treatment, an org. reducing agent is added to a tinning bath used for the electrolytic tinning. At least one kind of compound selected among ascorbic acid, salts and derivs. thereof is preferably used as the org. reducing agent but the concn. of the reducing agent in the tinning bath and the amount of the reducing agent added are not especially restricted. Thus, the formation of a wood grain pattern on the tinned surface by the reflow treatment can be prevented and the appearance and quality of the product are improved.
