PURPOSE:To simplify a handling and to attain a high speed processing by providing a converting means for converting an absolute address in the file of a CD- ROM disk designated by designating means to a block address on the CD-ROM disk, when designating data. CONSTITUTION:When retrieving the data, a host CPU 22 included in a host computer 14 gives the total number of blocks indicating the start address of the file on which the data is recorded to a block address converting circuit 26 included in a disk drive device 12 through an interface 24 and then, to a CD-ROM CPU 16 from the block address converting circuit 26. In a CPU 16, the directory of the file in the total number of the blocks is started from the CD-ROM disk is retrieved and the contents are applied to the host CPU 22 again. In the host 22, in which block of the file the data is present, is known and it is applied to the block address converting circuit 26.
