NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I {n is 2 or 3; R<1> has 0-3 unsaturated bonds and represents [lower alkoxy, lower alkoxycarbonyl, CH(OR<11>)2 (R<11> is substituted by a lower alkyl, etc.)] 1-10C aliphatic group or H; Y is CO2H, CHO, formula II [R<21> is lower alkyl; R<22> is (1-3C lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or Cl-substituted) phenyl] or formula III (R<31>-R<33> are lower alkyl or R<22>) or formula IV}. EXAMPLE:2-Ethyl-3-[methoxy(phenylthio)trimethylsilylmethyl]-cyclopenta none. USE:A medicine, agricultural chemical and synthetic intermediate therefor. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula V is reacted with a compound expressed by formula VI and the resultant product is then reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R<1>X (X is halogen or R<1>X is 1-3C organic acid, water or lower alcohol) in a polar solvent to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I (Y is formula IV).
