Appts. comprises a chamber for cooling hot rolled steel stock having a series of connected rotatable guides positioned at an angle between 1 to 10 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the chamber, each guide having a throughbore, the axis of which with respect to the longitudinal axis of the guide is equal to between 0.8 and 2.2 times the angle of the guides with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cooling chamber. The guides are positioned such that the angles alternate, and are connected together by resilient drive couplings or similar, with at least one guide having a drive unit arrangement.
