PURPOSE:To calculate the drape rate of a fabric accurately, by a method wherein a spot light is fixed vertically above one point of the circumferential end of a test piece and then, a contour line of the test piece projected on a recording paper is marked turning a rotary disc to measure a projection area thereof. CONSTITUTION:A test piece 1 with the diameter of about 25.4cm having a hole about 1cm across at the center thereof is placed and fixed on a rotary base plate E with a grasping plate. Then, a spot light (c) is positioned right above a desired part of the circumferential end of the test piece and a string 25 hung with a weight 26 from the center of a vertical projection positioning device D is put along a point regarded as the top of the highest ridge of the corrugated circumferential end of the time piece 1 to measure the position of light C at that time with a gauge 16a. Then, the string is put along the bottom of the lowest valley thereof to measure the position of the light C at that time with the gauge 16a. Then, an intermediate point between the two points is calculated and the light C is fixed on a horizontal rod 16 at the resulting point. In this matter, the contour line of the test piece 1 projected on a recording paper is marked sequentially turning the disc E to measure the projection area of the test piece 1 thereby calculating the drape rate.
