To be able to pick up and put down stones mechanically without helpers, it is necessary to connect a hydraulic torque motor firmly to the carrier vehicle. To permit, nevertheless, certain movements of the stone clamps, a universal joint with 4 shock absorbers is necessary. The hydraulic torque motor has a freewheel, by means of which the machine aligns itself, the lateral centring bows align the machine with the paving through the stone gripper's own weight, it also being possible thereby to displace and clamp the stones using only one control circuit. The centring of the clamping saddles has the effect that the stones lie in the centre of the machine. The oblique position of the clamping saddles brings about secure gripping and placing without gaps of the stones, the introduction of the stone gripper being facilitated by 2 ball rollers during laying. By exchanging the clamping saddles and centring bows, all types of stone can be laid.
