Long-term desiccation apparatus in wrappings, packages and transport containers for moisture-sensitive goods and articles is based upon a combination of barrier layer envelope, desiccant container 1 and desiccant, in which the desiccant does not come into action until the packaged goods are at risk. The automatic and intermittent air exchange is achieved by direct and/or lever-assisted action of materials of the desiccant container that are sensitive to air humidity, in that flap-shaped incisions 9 are formed in the composite material of the desiccant container; due to the "rolling effect" intrinsic in the material, open or close access to the desiccant is obtained as required. In an example the desiccant container consists of vulcanised fibres on the inside of which aluminium foil is glued. If the relative air humidity rises the moisture absorption of the layer of vulcanised fibres increases, which leads to expansion of the fibres, the hydrophobic aluminium layer remaining unchanged. <IMAGE>
