In the method and apparatus for decoration, the object (1) to be decorated is initially provided with a layer of adhesive which is subsequently dried. Thereafter, the object (1) is warmed to a temperature at which the transfer image (2) is thermoplastically deformable. The transfer image (2) is introduced via one edge, so that no creases form. The moist transfer image (2) is pressed against the dry adhesive layer by means of a contact pressure strip (7) of elastic material, solvent being withdrawn from the moist adhesive and the transfer image (2) being fixedly bonded in a very short time. As a result of the subsequent movement of the object (1), the transfer image (2) is automatically drawn after it and the object is bonded. <IMAGE>
