PURPOSE:To easily discriminate whether or not a candidate character string is correct even when a document display area has a smaller numbers of rows that of a document while the candidate character string is displayed at the above-mentioned candidate character string display area by the candidate display command of an operator, by providing the candidate character string display area independent of the document display area. CONSTITUTION:When the number of the character per row of a document is more than the number of the character per row of a display area by two characters, the character not displayed exists at the display area, and when the KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion is executed for the character string ('Jidoseizuki')(Japanese syllabary) including the character, only 'jizuki' (Chinese character) of a part of the converted KANJI ('jidoseizuki'(Chinese character) (automatic drawing machine)) is displayed, and the judgement about the correctness of a conversion is hard. When the operator operates a candidate display command means (candidate display key) 12, the operation is detected, the candidate character string 'jidoseizuki'(Chinese character) is displayed in a candidate display area 5b and the correctness of the conversion can be easily judged.
