While cables (10) are being drawn in, during which process the cables (10) are drawn into previously laid cable ducts (14.1, 14.2), a tensile force is exerted on the cable head. The tensile force is assisted by a cable pushing apparatus (20). In order to avoid exceeding the maximum permissible tensile force in the cable (10), which is particularly important for glass-fibre cables, it is proposed to determine the tensile force acting in the cable (10) immediately in front of or behind the cable pushing apparatus (20) and to make use of this to control the tensile forces acting on the cable (10). A tensile force measurement unit for carrying out the method is also specified, which consists of inlet rollers, outlet rollers (24) and deflection rollers (25). The deflection rollers (25) are pressed against the cable (10) by a tensioning device (26). The magnitude of the deflection is a measure of the tension force in the cable (10). A cable pushing apparatus is furthermore specified, in which a tensile force measurement unit is integrated. <IMAGE>
