PURPOSE:To produce a glass tube having high quality with decreased electric power consumption and with good productivity without deteriorating rotating apparatus by intermittently rotating a tubular gel at the time of drying the tubular gel while rotating the same around the tube axis by means of rollers and producing the glass tube. CONSTITUTION:An ethyl silicate, hydrochloric acid and pulverized powder silica are mixed and are subjected to agitation, ultrasonic wave irradiation, centrifugal sepn. and filtration treatment to form a sol having high homogeneity. Aq. ammonia is added to such sol to adjust pH value to 5 and thereafter the sol is filtered and is put into a PVC pipe. Both ends of the pipe are hermetically sealed and the pipe is rotated at 100rpm to gel the sol. The resultant tubular gel 1 is put into a drying vessel 3 and is rotated at every 1/4 of the circumference of the tubular gel 1 by means of the rollers 2 which rotate at every 12hr interval, so that the gel is dried for 2hr at 60 deg.C. The glass tube having the extremely good surface condition is produced with the decreased electric power consumption without deteriorating the rotating apparatus such as rollers. |
