PURPOSE:To obtain a high-hardness diamond sintered compact excellent in thermal shock resistance and high-temp. characteristics, by composing it of diamond and a binding metal phase containing Mo or Ni and strengthened by the precipitation hardening of gamma' phase of Ni3Al or Ni3AlTi. CONSTITUTION:A diamond powder (50-95wt%) is mixed with a powder containing Mo powder or Ni powder and also containing 0.5-6wt% metal powder of 1 or >=2 elements among Ti, Zr, Ta, and Al. The resulting powder mixture is subjected, in the powder condition or after compacting, to heating up to a temp. as high as >=1,300 deg.C under a high pressure of >=50kb by the use of an extra-high-pressure and high-temp. equipment to undergo sintering.
