The web comprises at least two layers of different compositions, one of which forms the basic metal and the other a coating. A composite slab is prepared by surfacing a basic-metal slab, over at least one of its large faces, using a deposition of a filler metal having the composition of the coating, by an electroslag remelting process, and the composite slab is subjected to a hot-rolling processing on a strip mill. The rolling process is continued until a web of the desired thickness is obtained, optionally by means of cold rolling. The invention relates, in particular, to the manufacture of carbon-steel webs coated with stainless steel, which can be used for manufacturing cooking vessels or chambers which have to withstand hot or cold corrosive atmospheres.
|
