PURPOSE:To miniaturize the captioned cylinder as a whole, by inserting a secondary cylinder into a primary cylinder together with inserting a piston into the secondary cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A secondary cylinder 10 is inserted into a primary cylinder 1 in a freely movable manner, while a piston 22 is inserted into the secondary cylinder 10 also in a freely movable manner. In a range from the inner camber of the primary cylinder 1 to the piston part 24 of the piston 22 via the inner chamber of the secondary cylinder 10 is formed a double acting fluid pressure chamber A. Meanwhile, a double acting fluid pressure chamber B is formed between the inner periphery of the primary cylinder 1 and the outer periphery of the secondary cylinder 10, while a double acting fluid pressure chamber is formed between the inner periphery of the secondary cylinder 10 and the outer periphery of the piston rod 23. With this contrivance, the large, reciprocal or stretching stroke movement can be obtained as a multistage cylinder device, regardless of the length of the primary cylinder 1. As a result, the size of the cylinder device can be made compact for the movable stroke.
