PURPOSE:To enhance the diagnostic accuracy of cancer, by contacting the serum, membranous fluid or pleural fluid of a case of cancer with a plastic carrier on which wheat germ agglutinin is formed into a solid phase to bond cancer related glycoprotein to the agglutinin. CONSTITUTION:Wheat germ agglutinin is dissolved in a weak alkaline solution and plastic beads are added to the resulting solution. Subsequently, the plastic beads are preserved in a protein solution, for example, a 1% bovine serum albumin monophosphate buffer solution. A solution containing cancer related glycoprotein is added to the beads on which wheat germ agglutinin is formed into a solid phase and cancer related glycoprotein is reacted with and bonded to the wheat germ agglutinin formed into the solid phase. Thereafter, the carrier is washed to remove the residual solution and, subsequently, wheat germ agglutinin labelled with a fluorescent substance such as radioactive iodo I<125> is added to the carrier to be bonded to the glycoprotein bonded to the wheat germ agglutinin formed into the solid phase and the bonding quantity thereof is measured to determined the concn. of the cancer related glycoprotein in the serum or body fluids of a case of cancer.
