PURPOSE:To accurately express the gradation by providing a gradation level correcting means such as a conversion table to correct the gradation in accordance with a black rate. CONSTITUTION:The gradation at every picture element of picture information supplied to this thermosensitive recorder is corrected in accordance with a black rate by a conversion table 5 arranged in the preceding stage of a pulse width modulating circuit 4. The conversion table 5 consists of a ROM and outputs a gradation corrected picture signal 8 in accordance with address information where upper address information 6 and lower address information 7 are combined. Lower address information 7 consists of N-bit parallel data which are comparison outputs of plural comparators 15-1-15-N, and black rate comparison information 17 indicating the number of print dots counted by a counter 16 is inputted to comparators 15-1-15-N. Thus, the gradation is accurately expressed.
