PURPOSE:To obtain a molding material for a sliding material, excellent in heat resistance, mechanical properties, chemical and physical properties, moldability and sliding properties, by mixing a specified polyamide with a specified filler. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic dicarboxylic acid dihalide and a diamine which correspond to the following component (a) and component (b) units are polycondensed together to obtain a polyamide (A) comprising randomly arranged 50-100mol% isophthaloyldiamine component units (a) of formula I (wherein R<0> is a 4-25C bivalent hydrocarbon group) and 50-0mol% diacyloyldiamine component units (b) of formula II (wherein Ar is a 6-20C bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group other than a 1,3-phenylene group) and having an MFR of 0.01-100g/10min as measured at 300 deg.C under a load of 2kg, a crystallinity <=7% as measured by X-ray diffractometry and a glass transition temperature of 110-240 deg.C. 100pts.wt. component A is mixed with 0.1-200pts.wt. powdery filler (e.g., graphite) of an average particle diameter of 0.1mmu-200mu or 3-200pts. wt. fiber filler (e.g., glass fiber) of an average length of 0.1-20mm, and the resulting mixture is melt-kneaded.
