PURPOSE:To obtain the titled optically active compound useful as an acid component of a low-toxic rapid-action insecticide, in high efficiency at a low cost, by treating a specific cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester with a specific microorganism or an enzyme produced by the microorganism. CONSTITUTION:A cyclopropanecarboxylic acid of formula I (R' is 1-4C alkyl) is treated with a material selected from the cell of the following microorganism or esterase produced by the strain to effect the resolution of the compound of formula I into an optically active (+)-trans-permethric acid of formula II (R is H or metal ion) and its diastereomer ester. The former compound is separated from the mixture. The microbial strain used in the above process is Rhodotorula rubra IFO-0918, Rhodotorula rubra IFO-1100, Rhodotorula rubra IFO-0909, Candida humicola IFO-0760, Candida lipolytica NRRL-Y-14605, Aspergillus flavus ATCC-11492 or Bacillus SP DC-1 (FERM P-8719). |
