PURPOSE:To prevent the force flaring of a C-shaped ring and to improve the reliability of the hermetic terminal structure of optical fibers under a high water pressure by imparting an annular stepped shoulder part to a part of the groove part of a metallic pipe. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical arbor 6 hermetically fixed with plural pieces of the optical fibers 13 is pushed into the metallic pipe 1 into which the C- shaped ring 4 is built. The ring 4 having elastic force is forcibly flared by bringing a chamfered part 7 into contact with the end of the arbor 6. Further, the ring is inserted and fitted into the groove part 8 of the pushed arbor 6 and thereafter, the arbor 6 is pulled back to install the ring 4 into the annular stepped shoulder part 9 provided in the groove part 5 on the inside surface of the metallic pipe 1. The pipe 1 at the end and a lip 10 for welding the end of the arbor 6 are thereafter subjected to airtight welding 11, by which the assembly is completed. The sufficient strength and reliability are assured even when a pressure resistant tube 2 for protecting the fibers under a high water pressure is broken. |
