The invention relates to a pressure-medium-operated telescopic cylinder with at least two pistons guided one inside the other, of which the first piston is an annular intermediate piston guided coaxially in an outer cylinder and the second piston is an inner piston guided coaxially in the sleeve-shaped intermediate piston rod of the intermediate piston, with two pressure-medium passages which can be connected to a pressure-medium circuit and of which the first pressure-medium passage, as viewed from the pistons, is arranged on the lid side and the second pressure-medium passage is arranged on the rod side, and with at least one connecting channel, piercing the wall of the intermediate piston rod, for the pressure medium. The object of the invention is to further develop a telescopic cylinder of the said generic type in such a way that its piston rods always extend and retract in a predetermined sequence. The object has been achieved according to the invention by a telescopic cylinder which is distinguished by a shut-off member which seals the connecting channel and which, with regard to the clearing of the connecting channel, can be actuated by abutting a stroke limit provided for the intermediate piston.
