An image is selected and an average value in each color coordinate channel is calculated to form a vector value. A luminous threshold value is obtained by multiplying a temporarily estimated color of the illuminant f by a coefficient k, to define a luminous region based on the visual characteristics of the human eye. An image is produced from which a luminous region is removed that has a color coordinate value exceeding the luminous threshold. Also claimed are methods of determining the color temperature of an illuminant during photographic imaging, and apparatus for determining the color of an illuminant, and an apparatus for determining illuminant color temperature.
