PURPOSE:To efficiently execute communication of a mixture of character information and picture information, by providing a document preparation and edition processing section, picture input processing section, etc., and selecting a communicating system in accordance with the attribute of each information, such as character information, picture information, etc. CONSTITUTION:Character information prepared by a document preparation and edition processing section 10 of a word processor, etc., is accumulated in a document information memory section 11. On the other hand, picture information inputted by processing an already existing original from a picture input processing section 12 of a facsimile, etc., is accumulated in a picture information memory section 13. These character and picture information are processed by a header which discriminates the leading character and picture information of one page quantity at a transmitting communication processing section 16 after these information are layout-processed in accordance with a paper size by means of a layout processing section 14, and sent to a separation processing section 19 where these information are stored in a character information memory section 21 or picture information memory section 22 depending upon the header. Therefore, character information and picture information are respectively processed by a document preparation processing section 23 and picture input processing section 24 and the character information and picture information can effectively be communicated under a mixed state.
