摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetooptical recording medium which has excellent termal stability and a substantially large Kerr rotating angle and permits reading otu with a good S/N ratio by using an alloy having a specific compsn. for a thin magnetic film having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film plane. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the alloy used for the thin magnetic film having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film plane is expressed by (Nd1-alpha(Fe1-betaCobeta)alpha)1-gammaMgamma, where M is + or -1 kinds of C, Al, Ga and Y and the compsn. range of the alloy is 0.5<=alpha<=0.9, 0.01<=beta<=0.8, 0.01<=gamma<=0.2. A large magnetooptic constant is thereby obtd. and the magnetooptical recording medium which permits reading out with The good S/N ratio and has easy film formability is thus obtd.
