PURPOSE:To produce a fiber having small diameters at low cost and efficiently, by blowing a hog gas from a great number of nozzles upon a viscous substance extruded from an orifice and further making a hot gas flow to the substance at a lower zone of the orifice to heat the substance. CONSTITUTION:Molten glass 2 melted under heating is extruded from an outlet orifice 3 of a pot 1 of fiber-forming device. On the other hand, a hot high-speed gas is straightly blown off a least three first gas jetting nozzles 6 and 6' set at equal intervals around the orifice 3. The molten glass flow is gradually thinned and made into a fibrous state while turning on its axis at a convergent point A by the gas flows. Further, second hot gas flows 9 and 9' consisting of a gas burner arranged below the orifice 3 are sent from second nozzles 8 and 8' consisting of gas burners set below the orifice 3 to a lower zone of the orifice 3 to heat the molten glass. Consequently, temperature of the fibrous molten gas flow is kept at a drawable viscosity for many hours and a thin fiber having uniform fiber diameter is formed. |
