PURPOSE:To display effective part of image data no matter what shifting operation is made by making a shift amount adjusting device adjust shifting to make a display space contained in a memory space when a detecting device detects that the display space exceeded the memory space. CONSTITUTION:When displaying a part of image data in a window 20, it is transferred to a VRAM 5 without making thinning out of dots, and points (Xb, Yb) that become new centers when the image id displayed again from a pointing device PD 8 are inputted. Then, displacement XDELTA is found by substracting center coordinate Xc of the window 20 from Xb. Further, it is judged whether the right end of the window after shifting is smaller than GX or the left end of the window becomes smaller than '0' or not and correction is made. Thus, it is possible to display effective part of image data no matter what shifting operation is made by an operator.
