<p>6-Fluoro pregnanes, esp. 6 alpha-fluoro 9 beta, 11 beta-epoxy steroids of formula (I), in which R16 is H, alpha-methyl or beta-methyl or ether, R17 and R21 are H, hydroxy or 1-6C acyloxy, are for use as anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic agents. They are made by (a) treating a 9 beta, 11 beta-epoxy pregn-4-ene 3,20-dione of formula (II) in presence of p-toluene sulphonic acid at 0-60 deg.C, with a cpd. of formula (III), in which R1 R3 and R11 are 1-6C alkyl, to obtain the 3-enol ether (IV); and (b) reacting with perchloryl fluoride at 0-60 deg.C to give (I).</p> |
