In the case of an intrinsically safe housing consisting of plastic which can be charged electrostatically, especially for underground use, preferably for enclosing an electrical or electronic circuit, an electrically conductive structure being provided in order to prevent discharges, which can cause ignition, of the insulated capacitance of the housing, it is proposed according to the invention that the electrostatically conductive structure (3, 4) be arranged behind that surface which can be charged electrostatically of the housing (1a, 1b) (which must not be earthed) in an externally inaccessible manner at such a distance and with such a surface extent that it is capacitively coupled (influence coupled) to the surface charges (5), which coupling is also effective in the case of electrostatic insular charges (7) which are located separately from one another, the electrical or electronic circuits (10) being used for charging the electrically conductive structure (3, 4) or supporting said structure or being uninvolved with it. <IMAGE>
