FLAME CUTTING OR DESURFACING MACHINE

Continuously cast billet or bloom strands are flame cut whilst in motion. The burner with drive mechanism and motor is attached to a flexible jib consisting of a series of linked sections. The complete flame cutting head consisting of burner, drive etc. is fitted to a pair of hydraulically operated clamping arms. These arms are actuated to grip the billet strand at the required location. The linked sections of the jib are extended as the cutting head travels with the billet strand. After cutting the burner and cutter heads are retracted, the linked sections being formed into a loop until the next outward movement when the flexible jib is again fully extended.
