PURPOSE:To execute at high speed the retrieving operation of an address conversion pair by providing a retrieval assist buffer having a necessary associative function, as well. CONSTITUTION:A physical address stored in an address conversion buffer 2 is read out by being referred to from the buffer 2 by a logical address from a CPU 1, and the logical address is converted to the physical address. When no conversion address exists in this buffer 2, the tag of the higher rank of the logical address stored in a tag storage part in the buffer 2 is referred to, a retrieval assist buffer 4 having an associative function for storing the physical address corresponding to the logical address which corresponds to the tag is retrieved and the logical address is converted to the physical address. In this regard, only against the logical address which cannot be converted, the address conversion cable of a main storage device 5 is referred to, and comparing with the case when the retrieval assist buffer does not exist, the retrieving operation of an address conversion pair can be executed at the higher speed.
