PURPOSE:To obtain a dictionary including types of characters to be recognized, which are the most suitable to users, by generating a subset including the type of character that a user specifies from a standard dictionary, registering it as a user's inherent dictionary and loading said dictionary in a memory afterwards. CONSTITUTION:Initially a user the standard dictionary 5. When he modifies characters to be recognized, he takes out only the type of character that he specifies from the dictionary 5, composes a user dictionary 7, saves or loads it on a disk or in a memory. At the time of generating the dictionary 7 there is a user table 6. When he uses it at first time he sets only the type of character that he specifies to '1', and others to '0'. Whenever characters are recognized, '1' is added to the 1st candidate table. At the time of correction, '1' is subtracted from the table, and after the correction '1' is added to the table. If the value of the table is zero, 255 is written in the table. In such a way the table is generated. When he specifies the update of characters to be recognized, he checks the table of 255 whether it should be added to the dictionary 7, the tables of '1' or less than 255 whether they are reduced or not, and regenerates the tables.
