For a multi-shelled sheet-like element having cavities between the shells, in particular wall, ceiling or floor element for rail-bound vehicles, the cavities between the shells being charged wholly or in part by filling material, it is proposed to use bulk material of fixed grain size and surface configuration as filling material. The bulk material must not itself contribute to the fire load and preferably comprises a mixture of non-combustible and self-extinguishing constituent parts of fixed grain size and surface configuration. The cavities between the shells are subdivided, in the preferred embodiment, into chambers which are interconnected, via through-passages in their partition walls, for filling with bulk material.
