SIZING COMPOSITION FOR GLASS FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition which is excellent in capability of binding glass fibers and can give a reinforced thermoplastic resin of an excellent hue, by mixing polyxazoline with a silane coupling agent. CONSTITUTION:A mixture comprising 100pts.wt. polyxazoline (A) comprising repeating units of the formula (wherein R is a 1-18C linear or branched alkyl or a pneyl) and obtained by polymerizing a 2-substituted-2-oxazoline by ring opening in the presence of a cationic polymerization catalyst 20-150pts.wt. silane coupling agent (B) (e.g., aminosilane) and 0-30pts.wt. lubricant (C) is suspended in an aqueous medium to obtain the titled emulsified composition containing 1-10wt% component A and 0.2-5wt% component B. Sized glass fibers obtained by mixing glass fibers with said composition in an amount to provide an ignition loss (based on solid matter) or 0.2-2.0wt% are used for reinforcing a thermoplastic resin (e.g., PS).
