PURPOSE:To easily correct the misconversion of documents and also to designate the range of conversion by reconverting the characters in a range designated optionally and set at an after the optional position of a converted document as the objects of conversion. CONSTITUTION:When a retrieval instruction key 1c is operated, the characters to be possibly corrected and set at positions following the cursor position, i.e., the characters obtained by converting the input KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters into KANJI (Chinese characters) are automatically retrieved. Then the cursor is set at these retrieved characters. The correction start and end position designation keys 1s and 1e indicate the start and end positions of the range of objects of correction respectively. A CPU 2 supplies the character codes received from a keyboard 1 to a text buffer memory 3 serving as the 1st memory to store them successively. At the same time, the CPU 2 converts successively the KANA character strings stored in the memory 3 into KANA- KANJI sentences at and after the head of those character strings based on the prescribed conditions, and rewrites the memory contents.
