PURPOSE:To reproduce primary colors faithfully without causing any color shift by stopping image formation in response to an image formation stop signal by stopping entire-surface exposure. CONSTITUTION:Lamps 7G, 7R, and 7K and electrostatic chargers 9Y, 9M, and 9C are turned off and the entire-surface exposure is carried out through the electrostatic charging of an electrostatic charger 5 and the discharging and image exposure of an electrostatic charger 16 and an electrostatic charger 26 by using white light generated by the simultaneous exposure of blue, green, and red by a lamp 7B as well as multicolor image formation. Consequently, a potential pattern appears on the entire surface of a photosensitive body 4. This is developed by one or plural developing devices 8Y-8K to obtain a monochromatic toner image. The formed monochromatic toner image is transferred to and fixed on recording paper (p) and the surface of the photosensitive body 4 after the monochromatic toner image is transferred is cleaned.
