PURPOSE:To simultaneously check the presence of a cartridge, the home position of a carriage and the residual amount of the ink in a sub-tank by one sensor, by providing a shield member, a light blocking part and a light blocking float. CONSTITUTION:A sensor consists of a light emitting element 12 and a light receiving element 13. A shield member 14 is made rotatable around a support shaft 15. When a cartridge 10 is inserted from a B-direction, the shield member 14 moves from a broken line position to a solid line position and the presence of the cartridge can be detected by the sensor. The passage of a carriage 4 across a home position (HP) is checked by checking that the light blocking part 18 provided to the leading end part of the carriage passes between both elements 12, 13. The residual amount of the ink in a sub-tank 9 is detected by detecting the light blocking float moving up and down by the residual amount of the ink provided in the sub-tank 9 by the sensor. |
