PURPOSE:To effectively prevent the generation of hydrogen from a resin hardened by ultraviolet rays, by humidifying the resin hardened by ultraviolet rays of an optical fiber core or an optical fiber unit. CONSTITUTION:Resins hardened by ultraviolet rays of an optical fiber core 20 or an optical fiber unit 26 are humidified. The optical fiber core 20 or the optical fiber unit 26 is exposed in an atmosphere of >=80% relative humidity or is immersed in water to humidify them, and in this case, the humidifying effect is enhanced according as the temperature of the atmosphere or water in this humidifying treatment is higher, and especially, the effect is considerably enhanced if this temperature is >=40 deg.C. Water remaining after the humidifying treatment is removed by drying after the treatment because constituting materials of the coated optical fiber are degraded for a long time. Thus, the generation of hydrogen from the resin hardened by ultraviolet rays is effectively prevented. |
