The invention relates to a modular apparatus for controlling automatic industrial (process control) devices, of the type comprising a module or housing 11 which is capable of being installed, either upright or laid flat and which houses one or more printed-circuit boards each provided with a series of contacts 15 forming the inputs/outputs, and a terminal-strip connector 13, which can be unplugged, for each board, which ensures the electrical connection of the board with the external wiring of the industrial installation. According to the invention, each contact 15 is designed for allowing, in each of the upright and laid-flat positions of the module 11, a positioning of the terminal strip 13 according to an orientation such that accessibility to the external connection terminals is identical for the two, respectively upright and laid-flat, positions of the module.
