<p>An accelerometer comprises essentially a leaf spring (12) having at its free extremety, as essential mass, an eddy current disk (13) and an eddy current brake with magnets (16, 17) of opposite polarity and a low retentivity iron conductance which dampers the vibration of the spring-mass system formed by the leaf spring (12) and the eddy current disk (13). The stroke of the inert mass is converted into an output voltage proportional to the acceleration by a sensor magnet (19) and a Hall element (20) as a means for travel detection. This accelerometer is built into a motor vehicle, for example, and used to release safety devices, such as safety belt tighteners, for example. It has the advantage of having a frequency response that is almost not temperature dependent, of being simple and compact.</p> |
