PURPOSE:To make a grindstone pressable to a machining surface without fail, by installing a first cylinder pressing the stone to one direction alone, a second cylinder pressing it to remaining two directions and a control circuit altogether, in case of a polishing machine which machines the three-direction-machining surface of a work. CONSTITUTION:When a work W on a table 25 is positioned to the lower part of a wheel head 19 and a WZ surface is machined, if a moving direction of the wheel head 19 is selected to both X and Y directions, a first air cylinder 44 comes into an acting state and a second air cylinder (unillustrated herein) into a nonacting state, respectively, by a selector valve, whereby a grindstone 42 is pressed to a machining surface WZ by the second air cylinder 44, and this stone 42 is reciprocated by an air motor 38, and furthermore the work shifts optionally these X and Y positions in the X direction by a motor 8 and in the Y direction by another motor, thus it is machined. Pressing force is regulated by a pressure control valve. When both WX and WY surfaces are machined, the wheel head 19 is turned round as far as 90 deg. or 180 deg., turning it toward these X and Y directions, and machining takes place by the same method.
