A vehicle braking system in which the output of a pump (1), delivery fluid under pressure to a brake valve (4), is regulated in response to the braking pressure. A combined restrictive and by-pass flow control valve (2), operates a constant pilot flow to the brake valve (4), this being sufficient to maintain and increase the system pressure to the maximum delivery pressure after a switch (3), cuts-off a main flow line to the brake valve once the pressure of fluid delivered thereto exceeds a predetermined value. When the pump (1), also supplies auxiliary hydraulic systems, a check valve (16), is interposed between the pilot flows to the braking circuit and the auxiliary circuits, so that the pump is able to respond to a high pressure pilot flow or signal in the auxiliary circuit(s). |
