PURPOSE:To aim at improvement in grinding efficiency, by pressing a grindstone to a machining surface in the remaining one direction at a time when a moving direction of the grindstone is set to two directions out of symmetrical, longitudinal and vertical directions, and moving it while grinding. CONSTITUTION:A wheel head 19 is made movable in X (rectangular direction in drawing), Y and Z directions, and further rotatable by a rotary flange 32. Now, when a side face Wy of a work W is machined, a grindstone 42 is lowered in the Z direction, moved in the Y direction, making to contact with the side face Wy, then a support arm 36 of the wheel head 19 is rotated by a cylinder 47, thus the grindstone 42 is pressed to the side face Wy with pressure. Under this state, the wheel head 19 is moved in the X direction so that the side face Wy is ground. In addition, when the side face Wy of the opposite side is ground, the grindstone is approached to the side face, and the wheel head 19 is rotated as far as 180 deg. and pressed to the side face by the cylinder 47 whereby the side face is ground. Doing like this, Wx and Wz surfaces are ground as well.
