LEACHING AND ADSORPTION OF A PRECIOUS METAL

A leaching and/or adsorption system for gold extraction in a carbon in pulp gold recovery process. The system (11, 13) includes a bed (15) having a series of longitudinal channels (17) each provided with sparge pipes along the base thereof. The channels receive pulp solution at one end which is in turn fluidised by air exhausted from the sparge pipes and which is delivered to the sparge pipes under pressure from a blower (35) via a series of manifolds (31, 33) connected thereto. The pulp solution is received and fluidised in a manner so that it gravitates along the channels through the leaching system (11) and then to the adsorption system (13). The adsorption system (13) contains removable screen members (81) disposed within the path of solution in the channels (17) which allow relative unimpeded passage of the solution therethrough. The screen members (81) define discrete compartments within the channels which house adsorbing material such as carbon which may permeate the pulp solution but be confined to residence within its compartment.
