In order to eliminate an otherwise usual prefeed pump for delivering oil through the riser pipe (11) between oil sump (1) and oil tank (8) arranged above, from which an oil feed line (10), equipped with an oil pump (9) and leading to the lubrication or cooling points (4) of the engine, emerges, the oil sump (1) is closed to the atmosphere and the riser pipe (11) dimensioned so that the gas and/or vapour pressure in the area of the oil sump (1) is sufficient to deliver oil into the oil tank (8) provided with a venting connection (14) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
