PURPOSE:To increase toughness by decreasing the content of lithium and to decrease thickness by using an alloy comprising a specified amount of lithium and a specified amount of boron and the balance of alumunium or magnesium and which has a specified thickness as a lithium alloy electrode for secondary battery. CONSTITUTION:An alloy comprising 5-50wt.% Li, 0.0001-wt.% at least one element selected from B, Hf, Zr, Y, and Nb, and the balnace Al and/or Mg, and which has a thickness of 10-500mum is used as a lithium alloy electrode for the negative electrode of secondary battery. By containing B, bonding force between crystal grains is decreased and grain boundary slip is produced to increase toughness. By restricting the content of lithium, dendritic growth of lithium is retarded and charge-discharge cycles of battery are increased. By decreasing the thickness of the electrode, the battery is made compact. There fore, the battery having high energy density and compact size can be obtained. |
