PURPOSE:To extend a inverse voltage period and to perform commutation stably, by using a larger one of an armature current detection signal and an armature current command signal as an armature current command of a vector computing element. CONSTITUTION:A vector computing element 20 receives the commands of a power factor angle command circuit 18 and a no-load terminal voltage command circuit 19 and the armature current command signal Ia and it outputs the field current command Ifp and the phase command beta of an inverter 2. A larger one of an armature current detector signal, which is the output signal of a current detector 10, and an armature current command signal, which is the output signal of a speed deviation amplifier 9, is selected by a maximum value selection circuit 22, to be given to the vector computing element 20.
