PURPOSE:To execute the editing with a logical data unit by executing the document data editing processing such as preparing, and shifting with partial document data as a unit, executing the re-composing processing of a rectangular area to occur at the time of editing partial document data and executing the re-arranging processing of the partial document data. CONSTITUTION:A partial document data control part 2 controls information concerning respective partial document data, can execute the direct access of special partial document data, facilitates the editing such as the preparing, shifting, copying and deleting of a partial document data unit and can hold respective types of logical attribute information for partial document data. A layout part 4, when the editing of partial document data themselves to the partial document data is executed and the editing of a partial document data unit is executed, re-composes a rectangular area where the partial document data are stored and re-arranges the partial document data. Essentially, usual text data, which is a one-dimensional data column, are in the sequence arranged at a rectangular area group controlled by a layout structure control part 3. When one piece of partial document data ranges to plural areas, the linking relation is controlled by the partial document data control part 2.
