PURPOSE:To impart heat resistance to coating and to improve the burn resistance of a welding electrode by incorporating fine-grained B4C, Cr3C2, TiC, ZrC, WC, TaC, MoC and SiC into a coating material. CONSTITUTION:>=1 kinds among B4C, Cr3C2, TiC, ZrC, WC, TaC, MoC and SiC contg. >=95wt% granules of <=5mum grain size are incorporated at 0.2-2.0wt% into the compsn. of the coating material. A binder is added to such coating material and the material is coated on a steel core wire to form the coated electrode of a non-low hydrogen type. Since the coating of such welding electrode contains the carbon compd., the heat resistance of the coating is improved; in addition, the burn resistance of the welding electrode in high- current welding is improved. The effective use length of the rod is thus increased and the welding operation efficiency is improved.
