PURPOSE:To produce L-threonine efficiently, by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Brevibacterium, having reduced pyruvate kinase activity or being deficient in it, capable of producing L-threonine. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium such as Brevibacterium flavum AJ12292(FERM P-9724) belonging to the genus Brevibacterium, having reduced pyruvate kinase activity or being deficient in it, capable of producing L-threonine, is inoculated into an ordinary liquid medium, cultivated at pH 5-9 at 20-40 deg.C under an aerobic condition for 24-72hr and L-threonine is collected from the culture solution.
